I love the energy of a new year. Like a new chapter of a book being written and the pages are blank to write whatever story I choose. A fresh start to create a new beginning. It is a time where I have a boost of energy and feel motivated to make any changes in my life.
Every year around the first of January, I make a list of what I want to accomplish over the next twelve months. Lists always help me to stay on task and visually see what needs to get done. I add ongoing goals, new dreams that may be long term and take time to gradually achieve, and something I have never done before that peaks my interest that I want to try.
All throughout the year, I cross off what I completed. I always feel a ‘high’ every time I complete anything from my list, a type of dopamine rush. I applaud my efforts and I am always proud of myself for the accomplishment of a goal, no matter how small it may seem.
I don’t think I have ever crossed off every single item on my list at the end of a year. I usually do complete at least half, if not more, of my goals. Anything I did not complete can always be added to next year’s list if it is still something I want to achieve.
I know many people make resolutions at the beginning of January. I like to look at my list as more of intentional goals to attain and work on for the next 365 days. Living a life with intention allows me to create a life I want to live. Intention not only helps me to write the story of my life, but also continuously edit my story along the way.
